Training Areas

Posted: 8th Sep

Training areas in Central and North Queensland are being developed and enhanced under the Australia-Singapore Military Training Initiative (ASMTI), allowing personnel to train with the equipment, platforms and systems that will be introduced over the coming decades.

Under the ASMTI, Singapore will invest around A$2.25 billion for Australia to develop and enhance training areas to meet the future needs of the Australian Defence Force and an increased presence of Singapore Armed Forces personnel.

The existing Shoalwater Bay Training Area in Central Queensland is being expanded and a new training area is being established near Greenvale in North Queensland. These training areas will be owned and managed by the Australian Government and the Australian Defence Force will have priority use.

Central Queensland

The existing Shoalwater Bay Training Area in Central Queensland will be expanded to the West. The Shoalwater Bay Training Area is approximately 100 kilometres North of Rockhampton.

North Queensland

Defence will establish a new training area near Greenvale in North Queensland. Greenvale is approximately 220 kilometres Northwest of Townsville.
